The Threat of Heresy in the Organic Church by Neil Cole | CMA Resources

I just read this article by Neil Cole: The Threat of Heresy in the Organic Church by Neil Cole | CMA Resources, and I think there is a considerable amount of truth to it. I know of several churches being run by power-hungry pastors in an almost cult-like fashion. When all the leadership authority is given to one person it becomes easy for heretical teaching to enter the church, even if the leader's intentions are good. It seems a properly equipped church (regardless of size or model) will possess a body that is active in its pursuit of scripture as individuals, with a minimum of two seasoned elders providing leadership and guidance.

  1. Not only does it increase the risk of heresy, but the church is weakened. Frost and Hirsch do a great job in The Shaping of Things to Come explaining the role of the gifts in Ephesians 4, and the church's need for multifaceted leadership if it is to grow up into maturity in Christ. And that is, of course, our ultimate goal: not simply to have right answers, but to be like and follow Him.
